Asaki Yumemishi

Other name: Asakiyumemishi – Yaoya Oshichi Ibun / あさきゆめみし ～八百屋お七異聞

Synopsis: In the ninth year of Tokugawa Tsunayoshi’s reign, a devastating fire ravages the town of Edo, destroying the prosperous greengrocer Yaogen, and leaving its only daughter, Oshichi, homeless. She is sent to stay at Daijoji temple, where she falls in love with Kichisaburo, a temple worker of unknown samurai descent. Kichisaburo, who dreams of becoming a scholar, has been raised at the temple since childhood.

After Yaogen is rebuilt, Oshichi’s father, Kihee, calls for her to return and plans to make his employee, Kanzo, his successor and son-in-law. But Oshichi’s heart belongs to Kichisaburo, and despite pressure from her father, she refuses to marry anyone else. Kichisaburo also harbors strong feelings for Oshichi, and their forbidden love sets the stage for a tragic tale.
